Outside the Lines
I never figured out how to paint without making a mess.
For years, I wandered through art festivals mesmerized not only by the beautiful art but the courage of those who created them. To stand in front of the public and expose their creative underbellies was valorous in my book. “Oh, to pain like that”, I mused. But I had no idea where to start. And with two small children and a high-powered job, this seemed like an impossible dream.
Years later, I started studying in earnest and fell in love with the stubborn viscosity of oil paint. Unfortunately, they did love me. In fact, their mere presence caused such pain in my head that I could only paint outside with a mask (and this was pre-pandemic!). Through an art classmate, I discovered water-miscible oils and I’ve smearing them ever since.
