He’s Gone
Blanketed by sparkling skies
Cloaked in dreams romanticized
I felt a sound
A rumble in the distance
Grew louder with insistence
It threw me to the ground
I scrambled up my family tree
Sure its love would comfort me
Its branches reached around
But even as I clung fast
My fingers lost their young grasp
And I fell right back down
I ran across the darkened wood
Chased by ghosts of childhood
As dawn broke through my pain
And yet her clouds still hovered
My sunlight mostly smothered
By unrelenting rain
And as the sky’s lonely
tears baptized me
I could finally believe
There’s no more happy ending
No more fairy tale
No sense in pretending
He’s gone, he’s gone for real.
